IMPORTANT UPDATE
Please note that as of December 31, 2010 the JMH Health Plan will no longer accept new applications for Cover Florida.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause you.
Thank you.
The Cover Florida program is designed to provide additional insurance options for Florida state residents, ages 19 to 64, who have been unable to obtain affordable health insurance.
JMH Health Plan is proud to announce its selection as a provider of the Cover Florida Plan to residents in Miami-Dade County beginning January 1, 2009.
The Cover Florida program was created in May 2008 when Governor Charlie Crist signed into law the Cover Florida Health Care Access Program Act (the “Cover Florida Act”). The program is designed to provide additional insurance options for Florida state residents, ages 19 to 64, who have been unable to obtain affordable health insurance.
“The Cover Florida Plans focuses on the importance of primary and preventive care to discourage unnecessary and costly visits to the emergency room,” said the governor. Individuals who have been without insurance for at least six months will be eligible to participate. No mandates will require individuals or employers to participate; however, employers will be permitted to assist employees by allowing payroll deduction or cost-sharing premiums.
In October the governor announced, “After months of careful deliberation, today I am proud to announce the selection of six insurance companies to provide Floridians with Cover Florida health insurance products. Upon completion of the competitive negotiation process, the state has selected two statewide and four regional plans for inclusion in the Cover Florida program.
“The selected insurance companies have designed Cover Florida plan proposals that provide an affordable, quality health insurance product for Florida’s uninsured citizens and maximize consumer choice. All approved carriers will offer consumers at least two plans, one with catastrophic and hospital coverage, and one without. Each Cover Florida plan will include a robust set of benefits, including – at a minimum – coverage for preventive services, screenings, office visits, outpatient and inpatient surgery, urgent care, prescription drugs, durable medical equipment, and diabetic supplies.”
